Traumatic Brain Injury
TBI care spans acute resuscitation to chronic disability and lifelong sequelae. The session covers concussion guidelines including the Living Concussion Guidelines update, blood biomarkers (GFAP, UCH-L1, NfL) for diagnosis and prognosis, CTE diagnosis with the Boston University tau-PET research, cognitive rehabilitation evidence base, post-traumatic seizure management, emerging neuroprotective therapies (cyclosporin, hyperbaric oxygen, ketamine), and pediatric TBI. Discussion addresses sports-related TBI including the youth football participation debate, military TBI and blast injury, the comparison of mild-moderate-severe TBI management pathways, return-to-play algorithms, and the integration of telehealth in post-TBI rehabilitation.
