Autonomic Disorders

Autonomic neuropathies impact multiple systems and quality of life with diverse aetiologies. The session covers postural orthostatic tachycardia syndrome (POTS) including the post-COVID surge, orthostatic hypotension management (droxidopa, midodrine, fludrocortisone, non-pharmacological), neurogenic bladder management, autonomic gastroparesis differential from diabetic and idiopathic, multi-system atrophy (MSA) autonomic features as defining vs Parkinson's, pure autonomic failure, and small-fibre neuropathy. Discussion addresses POTS subtyping (hyperadrenergic, neuropathic, hypovolemic), the autoimmune autonomic ganglionopathy and IVIG response, tilt-table testing protocols, Parkinson's disease autonomic features, vasovagal syncope treatment, and emerging therapeutics for orthostatic hypotension.
